Girlfriends, I salute you!

Amy May 28th, 2009

This is a post to those girlfriends of mine who are inspiring to me.

To my girlfriend who has found the time, the energy, and dedication to lose 70 lbs while raising 3 small kids, I salute you!

To my girlfriend who is expecting her next child, while raising a toddler, potty-training, and working full-time outside the house, I salute you!

To my girlfriend who is taking the plunge and starting her own business so that she can control her destiny, while still raising 3 active boys, I salute you!

To my girlfriend who has 2 toddlers at home, a husband in an uncertain job, a house on the market, and her own freelance work, I salute you!

To my girlfriend that works 2 jobs so that she can be debt-free, I salute you!

To my girlfriend who is insanely busy with volunteer work on top of her job and still manages to rearrange her schedule to meet her son as he gets off the schoolbus, I salute you!

You are all my inspiration and I just want to say that I love you and that you are all CRAZY!

summer of wonder

Amy May 28th, 2009

summer of wonder, of freedom, and fun

summer of playing, of running, and sun

summer of innocence, of learning, and laughter

summer of growing, of stretching, and near-disasters

summer of splashing, of planting, and watching

summer of dancing, of hopping, and touching

summer of moms, of dads, and kids

summer of memories, of what-ifs, and try this

summer of whatever-we-make-it, so enjoy, relax, and remember those wonderful summers past when anything was possible and the only worry was that school would start too soon.

I was going through pictures and I am just fascinated about how our boys look like us.  These are photos of the boys and us at about the same ages.  Jackson has his mother’s personality and Camden has mine. But Camden and his mother look so much alike to me.  And Jackson, well just look at the pictures.

Michael

little boys

Amy May 14th, 2009

little boys, eyes full of wonder, absorb the world around them

little boys, hearts full of joy, greet each day with excitement

little boys, minds full of promise, search for new things to learn

little boys, bodies full of energy, run, skip, hop, and dance

little boys, ears full of sound, sing choruses of fullfillment

little boys, souls full of future, enrich the world around them

little boys, arms full of hugs, spread love unconditionally

little boys, full of potential, grow into honorable men

world – I challenge you to teach, enrich, nurture, and shape little boys into men with character

Congratulations, Michael!

Michael is working on getting IT certifications.  Today he passed the first of two parts of his CCNA test.  These tests are not easy and I am so proud of him.

CONGRATS!

Mother’s Day Weekend

Amy May 10th, 2009

We just got back from a weekend in Gray, GA.  We went down there to stay with my nephews while my sister and her husband enjoyed a date night and we stayed for Mother’s Day weekend.  We had a really good time.  We visited Dauset Park and enjoyed the beautiful weather.  Camden played and played and played with his cousins who were kind enough to entertain a 2 year old.  We are back home safely and rejuvenated from a wonderful weekend of fellowship and family.

Seth, my nephew, also introduced us to the entertaining world of Guitar Hero.  We could have played all afternoon.  Do you think that Jackson would like Rock Band for his birthday????

Here are some pics of our weekend….

Save me, baby

Amy May 4th, 2009

One of the popular games in our house is Chase.  Since we have a big open downstairs we can run all around.  Camden has taken to running to whichever of us is not chasing him and saying “save me” and crawling into our laps.

The other day I was chasing Camden and Daddy was at work.  Jackson was sitting on the floor watching us run past him again and again.  All of a sudden I hear Camden say “Save me, baby”.  I come around the fireplace and see Camden laying in Jackson’s lap.  Jackson had the biggest smile on his face and has his arm “protectively” around Camden.  Jackson looked so proud.

I wish I could have gotten a picture, but they didn’t stay still long enough.

Life after death

Amy May 1st, 2009

Most of us consider the phrase “life after death” when referring to the person who has died.  Today I am going to use it to describe the ones left behind.

Today would have been my dad’s 70th birthday.  Happy Birthday Dad!

It has been almost a year since you left this earth and you have missed a lot and we have missed a lot by not having you with us.  You have missed a birth, several family birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s, Easter, an incredible fall, a beautiful spring…  We have missed your presence, your smile, your laughter, your encouragement, your hugs, and your love.

It is so hard for me knowing that you will never get the chance to see your grandsons grow into men and that you never got to even meet Jackson.  He is becoming so much fun and he would have loved his Grandpa.  Camden is such a loving and sweet soul and loves to visit GiGi and give her great big hugs.  I wish you were there for him to love also.

All of our holidays were a little less shiny, a lit bit quieter, a little bit solemn because we each in our own way were looking for you and missing you.  You have left a legacy of love and cherished memories and an emptiness in each of our hearts that will never be filled.  New loves and new memories will grow around the void, but it can never disappear.

Yes, there is life after death, but it is a life changed.  I miss you…..
