Camden the actor

September 27th, 2008

We have reached a new milestone with Camden.  He can now climb (escape) out of his crib.  He has not mastered this feat as of yet, however, and simply crashed upon landing.  His GiGi was babysitting for us today and as she got to the bottom of the stairs, after putting him down for a nap, she heard a horrendous thump.  When she got back to his room he was staggering toward the door.  First attempt at escape not so graceful.  He was OK, though, and then docilely went down for his nap.

When we got home and he got up from his nap we asked him about it.  He first showed his daddy how he threw his leg over the side and then pulled himself up (not actually completing the task and repeating the crash).  Then I asked him about his adventure.  I told him GiGi told me that he got out of his crib and fell.  To this he pointed to his head.  I told him that Yes, I heard he hit his head.  He then proceeded to lay down on the floor and show me that he fell.  As I narrated to his actions, he got up and smiled at me so pleased that I figured out his charades.  He’s not quite mastered language, but communication is no problem.

An acting career may be in his future.  :)

State of the Union

I find it very dramatic that the police were having to direct traffic at a gas station in Rome, GA today. There is no good reason for that.

Walmart and Diamonds

September 25th, 2008

Thought for the day….

As Mom was admiring my engagement ring in Walmart yesterday, I was reminded of what a friend told me once.  She said that right after her fiance proposed that she ran to Walmart because a diamond sparkles the most brilliantly under the lights in Walmart.  And for the record she was from Illinois, so this is not strictly a redneck observation.  :)

Try it….

Boom Days and the Fair

September 25th, 2008

The small town where my mom lives recently started having a celebration called Boom Days that commemerates a year in the late 1800′s when the town was a Boom Town.  We all went last week and looked at the booths and listened to some Bluegrass – Camden danced along.  Of all of the attractions though, the playground in the park was Cam’s favorite.

And then last night we all went to the Fall Fair. Camden had a lot of fun riding rides for the first time and seeing all of the animals. The flower and food exhibits held no interest to him after he was informed that he couldn’t pick the flowers or eat the food.  Below are some pics from both events.

Flu Season

September 24th, 2008

Flu Season has struck our family.  It started with Camden who brought one home from MDO. Then Amy, myself and finally Jackson has caught it.  All of us with the exception of Jackson are going about life pretty much a little slower. But Jackson… our normally content baby wants to be held 24/7, and held still. Any movement and he lets out with loud screeching.  Sleep was in short supply last night as Amy was holding Jackson and every time she or I would move, he would cry.

The Charmer Strikes Again

September 24th, 2008

The other night I was getting Camden dressed for bed. I was tired and have a cold and Camden was being… well let’s just say he wasn’t cooperating with me. I had just about had enough and said to him, pointing to my face (with a big frown), “Do you see a smile on my face?” My precious 22 month old stops, points to his face, and puts on the biggest smile.
As you can guess, I couldn’t stay frustrated with him after that.

Skunk

September 20th, 2008

Last night was an experience I hope I don’t have to go through again. Apparently, one of the cats frightened a skunk.  I don’t think they got sprayed, but we had the windows open and that was one almighty stink.

Most of you are probably familiar with the Naked Cowboy in New York City.  Well, we have our own miniature version at our house.

On Being a Family

September 12th, 2008

I’ve been thinking lately of how, just a few short years ago, before I met my wife, I had it set in my mind that I didn’t want to settle down, get married and have kids.

Then I met Amy…

Although it took awhile for me to realize it (and she was REALLY patient), she was the only woman I had met with whom I could be completely myself. And along with that realization came the awareness that I loved her. Truely loved her. Could not comprehend being apart from her.

Out of that love, I came to understand what it meant to share everything with someone. And that sharing became a desire that I never thought I would feel… to have a family!

Well, now we are a family; Amy, Camden, Jackson, and myself; and I can’t understand how I didn’t want to have my own. Playing with Camden is a complete joy, he is so fun to be around. And just holding Jackson touches my heart so poignantly.  And the way my wife looks at me and the boys when we’re together… I now live for that look.

Thank you Amy, for letting me be myself, I love you.
