Can you hear me now?

Michael August 21st, 2008

Let me tell you, the Verizon guy and his “people” haven’t been up in the San Juan Mountains. Amy’s aunt Enda and I went jeeping south of Ouray. We had a great time but were running late because we had to constantly stop for motorcycles from the Colorado 500. We couldn’t call and let them know. We were supposed to be back by 5pm but didn’t get signal until we hit Silverton at 8pm.
Enda and I were very tired and covered in dust, but it was fun. As usual, here are the photos.

Ouray at last

Amy August 19th, 2008

We have finally arrived at our ultimate destination, Ouray, CO.  It is beautiful here, snuggled in the heart of the mountains, and my aunt has the great privilege of living here year round.  Son #1 is happy to be here most of all as he will have a couple of days reprieve from his car seat.  He gets so happy when we stop and he gets to run, run, run and he has taken to crying as we head back to the car.  He really enjoyed our lunch stop today as he got to throw rocks into the river.  Tomorrow Michael and Enda head up the mountains jeeping and will hopefully return safe and sound with some beautiful photos.  Mom, the boys, and I are off to explore the town.

Here are the photos from today.

Estes Park and the Moquin’s.

Michael August 18th, 2008

We started out the day visiting the YMCA of the Rockies. Camden was so happy to get out of the car. Then we met with JoAnn and Rene’ Moquin, and “hiked” around Bear Lake today with the boys. Camden latched onto Rene’ and took him everywhere. The Moquin’s treated us to a great lunch and led us around a couple of easy spots that Camden would enjoy. Took some good photos. Now for dinner with a friend of ours who lives here in Denver.

Denver

Michael August 17th, 2008

Another good travel day. Made it to Denver as scheduled. The boys behaved well considering. Camden has had about enough of the car seat and started crying when we had to put him back in the car for a trip to the grocery store. I uploaded photos of the highlights of the day, enjoy.

Kansas City.

Well, we made it to our first days destination with no problems. The boys took it well. We stopped in Paducah, KY for lunch on the riverfront. Amy took some pictures. Camden loves trains.

Hurray for Ouray!

Michael August 15th, 2008

Well, were all packed. The boys are asleep. Ready to head out to Colorado about the same time as the sun comes up. I’ll update the blog as I can along the way.

Camden, what sound does mama make?

Michael August 14th, 2008

Just because this is something Amy wouldn’t blog about, I’ll relate this.

We were on our way back from a trip a few weeks back when, toward the end of the day, we were both trying to keep Camden occupied.  One of his favorite toys is a small Beany baby monkey.  He takes it everywhere.  Amy would ask Camden, “What sound does a monkey make?”  Then she would pipe in with “ooh! ooh! ooh! ah! ah!”  He never seemed to make the connection and just stared at her blankly.

After many an attempt at this we were all tired and ready for a relaxing nights sleep when I had an epiphany on how his mind works and asked, “Camden, What sound does mama make?”  He immediately chimes, “ooh! ooh! ooh! ah! ah!”

Made my day. Now he’ll say that almost every time I ask him that question and it makes us all laugh.

Mama

Amy August 14th, 2008

Son #1 has finally consented to calling me Mama.  He has called his father Daddy for months and has even attempted “Aunt Leisl”, but never Mama.  He calls our animals by name, calls his brother “Baby”, and says Paw Paw perfectly, but never Mama.  When we would ask him to say Mama, he would just smile coyly and point to me.

This week however, he has decided to honor me with a title instead of just random yelling when he wants me.  It is a sound that I am honored to hear and I hope he always feels comfortable calling it whenever he needs help.

Mama….  I am officially a Mama!

now to work on Grammy….

Jackson and the Ceiling Fan!

Michael August 13th, 2008

Jackson (who is almost 8 weeks old) was laying on the bed this afternoon.  I was writing new code for the web site.  I thought he was sleeping. Then I hear this high pitched laughing!  I thought Camden had somehow gotten into the room (He was napping across the house).  I turned to look and Jackson was staring at the ceiling fan and just giggling.  It lasted about 5 minutes and I would have gotten my wife up to see it but she was napping as well.

It was a good day.

Attack of the Blahs!

Michael August 12th, 2008

I’ve gone and caught myself a cold. It started Sunday and in typical fashion I ignored it as best I could. Now Princess is showing symptoms. I’m going to go to the doctor this afternoon because I want to be able to take care of the boys if she feels like I do right now.
